The St. Louis Cardinals have parted ways with hitting coach Brant Brown, The Athletic's Katie Woo first reported.
Brown joined the club prior to the 2025 campaign after serving as assistant hitting coach with the Dodgers in 2018, top hitting coach with the Marlins in 2023, and a brief stop with Seattle before St. Louis. The Cardinals finished 16th in scoring this past season and ranked in the bottom five in OPS, wOBA and wRC+. They also landed in the bottom 10 in those same categories in 2025.
Despite the offensive struggles, most of manager Oli Marmol's staff is expected to remain intact. Outfield coach Jon Jay and third base coach Ron Warner, both on expiring contracts, will be retained for next season, according to Derrick Goold.
St. Louis will look to build around emerging talents including Jordan Walker, who posted 29 home runs and 22 stolen bases in 2026 on his way to his first All-Star selection. Rookie JJ Wetherholt added 17 home runs and 89 runs in his debut season. The club projects Alec Burleson, Ivan Herrera, Leo Bernal and Joshua Baez as its 2027 offensive core. The Cardinals still need permanent solutions at third base and center field.
