Los Angeles Chargers running back Omarion Hampton, the No. 22 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, has seen his playing time diminish after a promising start to his rookie campaign.
Hampton received 40 snaps and set a personal best with 23 carries in Week 2 against the Las Vegas Raiders, but his workload dropped to a backfield-low 20 snaps in Week 5 against the Denver Broncos. Kimani Vidal logged 26 snaps that week and Keaton Mitchell played 21. Hampton's snap totals in Weeks 3 and 4 were 27 against the Buffalo Bills and 22 against the Seattle Seahawks.
The rookie has carried 73 times for 271 yards with a team-leading four touchdowns through five games. His rush success rate stands at 37 percent, down from 42 percent in 2025, per NFL Next Gen Stats. Hampton also lost the ball against the Raiders, marking his second giveaway of the year.
Vidal, a 2024 sixth-round pick, has seen his snap count climb from four in Week 1 to 26 in Week 5, highlighted by a 42-yard touchdown run against Denver. Mitchell, who arrived as a free agent in March, has played at least 15 snaps each game. Hampton remains listed as the starter on the depth chart.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh expressed continued enthusiasm for the rookie, stating, "every time Omarion is in the game, I'm fired up."
