World Series Game 1 — Tampa Bay Rays at Milwaukee Brewers
Friday, 8:00 PM ET | American Family Field | Fox
Series starts tonight. No previous game to break down, no momentum to chase — just a clean slate and two clubs that earned it.
Milwaukee went 103-59 on the year. That is a machine. Tampa Bay came in at 98-64, which in this league is nothing to wave off. Rays have been doing more with less since forever, so don't let the records fool you into thinking this is a mismatch.
On the mound tonight: Nick Martinez for the Rays, ESPN listing him at 3.00 ERA with a win. Jacob Misiorowski gets the ball for Milwaukee, 3.24 ERA, no wins or losses listed against him. Two guys who clearly earned the start on the biggest stage — neither one came in here leaking oil.
What decides Game 1 for me is how Misiorowski handles a Tampa lineup that is built to grind pitchers. They take pitches, they work counts, they make you work every inning. If he's cruising through 5 or 6 innings without a big crooked number, Milwaukee's bullpen at home in front of that crowd is a real weapon. Martinez has the edge in experience by what ESPN is showing, but pitching in a World Series at somebody else's park is its own animal.
DraftKings opened Milwaukee at -160 and they're sitting at -187 now. Tampa opened at +132 and they're at +154. The total moved from 6 to 6.5.
Home field, better record, crowd at American Family Field on a Friday night — Milwaukee has the edge on paper, but Tampa does not roll over.
Who you got going into tonight, and do you trust Misiorowski in a Game 1 spotlight?
