Wednesday morning and the hot stove is already throwing heat. Few things worth talking through.
The salary cap fight is the one that actually matters right now. MLB just proposed pushing the cap back to 2028 while they get other pieces of the new CBA in place. Dec. 1 is the deadline everybody's watching. Whether that delay is a real compromise or just kicking the can is the question. Either way, this thing is not settled and the lockout talk is real.
Qualifying offers went out Monday at $23.15 million a pop. Eight players got them. The pack mentions Suzuki and Arozarena by name. Those two are going to have interesting decisions to make. Take it, reject it and pay the draft pick price, or find a team willing to deal with the compensation. That shakes up the free agent market early.
Seattle went and hired Jason Kanzler out of the Cubs front office to run their dugout. Farm director turned big-league manager. Unorthodox path but front offices have been doing this more and more. We'll see if the clubhouse buys in.
Mark Teixeira won a U.S. House seat in Texas' 21st Congressional District. 3-time All-Star turned congressman. Baseball to politics is a heck of a second career. Guy could hit, I'll give him that.
Also keeping an eye on the Brewers award finalists -- Jacob Misiorowski is in the mix along with 3 other guys from the World Series champs. That's a loaded ballot when the champions have 4 finalists.
