New York Jets offensive coordinator Frank Reich acknowledged hearing about wide receiver Garrett Wilson's frustration over his limited role, both directly from head coach Aaron Glenn and indirectly from the player himself.
Wilson was targeted only twice through three quarters during last Sunday's 26-19 defeat to the New England Patriots. Television cameras captured the visibly upset receiver making audible complaints as he headed to the locker room afterward.
Reich said he welcomes the display of emotion. He noted that he does not mind when players speak up, adding that he likes when they make noise. Reich also said the offensive priority is to involve Wilson as early and as often as possible. Glenn has reinforced that message through headsets during games, reminding staff to get playmakers the ball.
Despite his limited opportunities, Wilson ranks ninth in receptions with 35, 14th in receiving yards with 418, and 15th in targets with 48. The Jets offense sits 25th in scoring at 18.7 points per game.
The 2-4 Jets host the 0-5 Miami Dolphins on Sunday at MetLife Stadium. Rookie Omar Cooper Jr. emerged with six catches for 103 yards and one touchdown against New England. Wide receiver Adonai Mitchell could return after missing four games following finger surgery, while running back Breece Hall returned to practice Thursday on a limited basis after three games out with a quadriceps injury.
