Last Night's Film Room — Friday 9:30 AM
Two late games worth digging into from Thursday night.
North Texas 48, Florida Atlantic 41 — DATCU Stadium
North Texas moves to 6-2 and FAU drops to 5-3. This one was a straight air raid on both sides. Tayven Jackson (North Texas) was clean all night: 33/46, 404 yards, 4 TDs, zero picks, QBR 60.0. The real difference on the ground was Jahiem White (North Texas) — 26 carries, 193 yards, 7.4 avg, 2 TDs, long of 59. That's a backfield doing real work, not just collecting touches.
For FAU, Caden Veltkamp went 37/56 for 452 yards and 5 TDs against 1 INT, QBR 67.1. Easton Messer (Florida Atlantic) had 16 catches, 189 yards, 3 TDs on the night. Dominique Henry (Florida Atlantic) added 10 catches for 116 yards. They moved the ball fine. The run game just couldn't match what White was doing.
Troy 24, James Madison 21 — Final/OT — Bridgeforth Stadium
JMU falls to 7-2 with a gut-punch overtime loss. Seth Cromwell (James Madison) carried 23 times for 135 yards, 5.9 avg, 1 TD — he kept them in it.
The story, though, is Justin Powe (Troy). 3 interceptions, 37 return yards, and a pick-six. That's your game right there. Troy goes to 4-4 on the back of one safety having a career night.
JMU's path through the rest of the season just got a lot more interesting at 7-2.
Anybody else watching what North Texas is quietly building, or is the focus all elsewhere this week?
