CLEVELAND -- Guardians manager Stephen Vogt put an end to speculation about his future Thursday, confirming he will return to Cleveland next season to pursue a World Series title.
"I'm here," Vogt said at a news conference. "I'm coming back."
Vogt has captured an American League Central crown in each of his three seasons at the helm and has twice been named AL Manager of the Year. Rumors connected him to Seattle's open managerial position due to his family's home in Olympia, Washington, and his 2023 stint as Mariners bullpen coach.
However, Vogt said he has received no contact from Seattle, which fired Dan Wilson last month after a 76-86 campaign. While manager trades remain rare, the possibility exists Seattle could approach Cleveland with an offer.
Guardians president Chris Antonetti dismissed that scenario, using Vogt's nickname: "I have every expectation that Voter is going to manage here for a really long time."
Vogt signed a multiyear extension after the 2024 season, though terms were never disclosed. He acknowledged the strain of distance from his wife and three children, calling it "the worst part of my job."
Pitching coach Carl Willis, 65, will also return for his 15th Cleveland season.
Mickey's Angle: Vogt's commitment stabilizes a Guardians club with young talent and division dominance; bettors can trust Cleveland's continuity heading into next spring.
