Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles — Mon Oct 26, 8:15 PM ET, Lincoln Financial Field, ESPN/ABC/Disney+
Brothers and sisters, before you sit down tonight with your twenty bucks on the line, look at what happened to this number since open. The books opened Philadelphia as a 3-point home favorite. Right now Dallas is a 4.5-point road favorite. That is a favorite flip — the road team is now laying points. The total opened at 48.5 and sits at 44.5. Both numbers moved a lot, and the books don't do us any favors by explaining why.
Here is what the injury reports show. On the Eagles side, DeVonta Smith (Eagles WR) is out with a hamstring and Dontayvion Wicks (Eagles WR) is out with an ankle. Losing two receivers at the same time will do things to a passing game and a total. Michael Carter II (Eagles CB) is also out, abdomen. For Dallas, KaVontae Turpin (Cowboys WR) is out with ribs, Drew Shelton (Cowboys OT) is out with a hamstring, and Dee Winters (Cowboys LB) is out with a calf.
Weather is a non-factor tonight: clear skies, 60 degrees in Philly. Both teams had 8 days rest, standard week.
The spread crossed through 3, which is one of the two key numbers in NFL betting — more games land on 3 and 7 than any other margin. Getting a number on the wrong side of 3 is real money out of your pocket.
What it means for you: A favorite flip means the market now thinks a different team is better today — the bet at open is gone, and you are looking at a different game.
What do you make of that total drop — is the receiver news enough to explain it, or is there something else the reports haven't caught up to yet?
