Pitso Mosimane has announced his second preliminary squad as Bafana Bafana head coach ahead of Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Kenya on Nov. 13 and 17.
The 62-year-old included nine uncapped players in the group. New call-ups feature Mbekezeli Mbokazi from Chicago Fire, Aden McCarthy of Sabah, Orlando Pirates forward Botiumelo Radiopane, Richards Bay defender Nqaba Xulu, Cercle Brugge midfielder Luke le Roux, AmaZulu pair Thalente Mbatha and Nkosikhona Radebe, Devin Titus of MAS Fes, and Golden Arrows goalkeeper Thakasani Mbanjwa.
Mosimane, who began his tenure in early September, started with qualifying victories over Guinea and Eritrea plus a friendly win against Egypt. SAFA appointed him to a second stint leading the national side.
Yanela Mbuthuma and Shandre Campbell were left out due to declining club form. Lyle Foster earned a second consecutive preliminary selection, while Brooklyn Poggenpoel kept his place after strong midfield performances last break.
Radebe offers right-back cover with Khuliso Mudau of Mamelodi Sundowns still injured. Mosimane's predecessor Hugo Broos, who guided South Africa to third at AFCON 2023, had favored a back five featuring Ronwen Williams, Aubrey Modiba, Mbokazi, Ime Okon and Mudau. Broos recently told Het Nieuwsblad regarding Mosimane's appointment: "If he comes in, they'll go five years back in time."
