Brandon Aiyuk has hired Drew Rosenhaus as his agent, with Rosenhaus telling ESPN's Adam Schefter he is "working on getting him back to work and playing again in the NFL."
The San Francisco 49ers wide receiver has not played since Oct. 20, 2024, when he tore the ACL, MCL and meniscus in his right knee against the Kansas City Chiefs. The relationship between Aiyuk and the 49ers deteriorated after that. The team placed him on the reserve/left squad list in December when he stopped attending the facility, following the voiding of roughly $27 million in guaranteed money from his contract.
Aiyuk did not report for training camp in July and reverted to the reserve/did not report list. He must apply for reinstatement with the NFL before he can play again. The 49ers have attempted to trade him previously without success, and a release appears more likely if he is reinstated.
Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch have made clear Aiyuk will not return to San Francisco. When asked in September about a reunion despite receiver injuries, Shanahan said, simply, "no."
Aiyuk, 28, was the No. 25 pick in the 2020 NFL draft. He earned second-team All-Pro honors in 2023 with 75 catches for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns.
Mickey's Angle: Aiyuk's 2023 production makes him an intriguing name if he gets healthy and lands somewhere, but the knee damage and long layoff mean buyer beware for any team or fantasy manager.
