The Miami Dolphins are making a change at kicker following their Week 6 bye.
According to Jordan Schultz of The Schultz Report, the Dolphins are re-signing Zane Gonzalez. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the team is releasing Riley Patterson.
Gonzalez, 31, spent time with Miami during the offseason and training camp before landing on injured reserve in August. He was released with an injury settlement on Aug. 19. In nine games for Atlanta last season, Gonzalez connected on 19 of 22 field goals and 17 of 18 extra points.
Patterson struggled in his brief Dolphins tenure. He missed an extra point in the Week 5 loss to Cincinnati and had also missed two field goals earlier this season.
The move gives Miami a veteran option as the team looks to stabilize its special teams operation.
Mickey's Angle: Gonzalez's strong Atlanta numbers suggest he can steady the ship, but kicking in Miami's outdoor conditions is a different challenge—watch his early returns before trusting him in any fantasy or betting spots.
