The Falcons are reshuffling their quarterback depth chart, signing veteran Andy Dalton and releasing Cooper Rush to clear the roster spot.
Dalton, 38, had options. Philadelphia offered him a contract Sunday, but he declined and chose Atlanta instead. The Eagles had traded for him from Carolina in March, then cut him after he appeared in one game — an interception in relief of Jalen Hurts during a concussion check. When Hurts landed on injured reserve with a blood clot, Philadelphia tried to bring Dalton back. He passed.
Atlanta has already used four quarterbacks this season: Rush, Michael Penix, Jack Strand and Tua Tagovailoa. If Penix stays healthy, Dalton watches from the sideline. Given the room's injury history, Dalton could easily become the fifth Falcon to take snaps under center.
Mickey's Angle: The Falcons are buying injury insurance with a guy who knows the drill. If you're eyeing Atlanta props, keep Dalton's number handy — Penix's health has been anything but a lock.
