New York Giants coach John Harbaugh confirmed Monday that he personally called Tennessee Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk about trading for defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons, who was ultimately dealt to the Chicago Bears.
"I did, I did," Harbaugh said. "I left a message because you're turning over every stone."
Harbaugh emphasized the Giants are "open for any call" and not bound by any unwritten rules about communication. The team had genuine interest in Simmons, with the interior defensive line a clear need.
The Giants are also linked to Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, though either move would cost multiple high picks. New York is thin at running back with Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy Jr. dealing with hamstring injuries.
Harbaugh noted the Giants have only five picks in the 2027 draft, making them "smart shoppers" who would prefer to use future capital. General manager Joe Schoen stressed any deal must work for the "short term and long term."
The trade deadline is Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. ET.
