The Carolina Panthers went from division hopefuls to dismantled in one afternoon, falling 43-15 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a performance that erased any early-season optimism.
Bryce Young endured a nightmare outing: two interceptions, five sacks, and pocket presence that evaporated under Todd Bowles' pressure. One sack produced a Calijah Kancey scoop-and-score. The offensive line surrendered 13 pressures and six quick pressures, with right tackle Taylor Moton now out indefinitely with a fractured fibula.
The defense allowed 258 rushing yards, Tampa Bay's fourth-most ever, plus three touchdowns on the ground. Special teams added a blocked extra point returned for two points and a muffed punt. Carolina found new ways to stumble in every phase.
The Panthers still lead the NFC South at 3-3, but by just a half-game over Atlanta, with Tampa Bay and New Orleans at 2-5 lurking behind.
Meanwhile, Detroit's Dan Campbell defended his risky fourth-and-1 call from his own 24, saying "I thought we would get it." The Lions beat Green Bay 20-17 after the Packers' field goal attempt was blocked.
In Minnesota, questions persist about the Vikings' quarterback decision despite their 6-0 record. J.J. McCarthy threw for 252 yards in a 27-21 overtime win for the Texans, while the Vikings' offense ranks near the bottom in touchdown efficiency.
Mickey's Angle: Carolina's collapse exposes real structural problems on both lines that won't fix themselves. For bettors, the NFC South just became impossible to trust week-to-week.
