Dylan Larkin has expanded his list of approved trade destinations to 10 teams, giving the Detroit Red Wings more flexibility to move their former captain, a source confirmed to ESPN.
Larkin, who requested a trade last June, initially listed only the Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild and Vegas Golden Knights. Salary cap complications and insufficient return offers blocked any offseason deal.
The 30-year-old center has since added seven teams: the Carolina Hurricanes, Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars, New Jersey Devils, Tampa Bay Lightning, Utah Mammoth and Washington Capitals. Montreal fans chanted "We Want Larkin!" during a recent visit, but a source said he is not interested in Canadian teams.
Larkin was stripped of his captaincy after reporting to training camp. He has one goal and two assists in six games this season. He is in year four of an eight-year, $69.6 million contract with an $8.7 million cap hit.
The Red Wings, who last made the playoffs in 2016, drafted Larkin 15th overall in 2014. He ranks 10th in franchise history with 646 points.
Mickey's Angle: Larkin widening the net should accelerate talks, but that $8.7M AAV still makes matching salary the real puzzle for contenders eyeing a top-six center.
