The New York Rangers made a pair of roster moves Thursday, placing goaltender James Reimer on waivers and defenseman Sean Durzi on injured reserve.
Reimer, 38, is expected to dress as Dylan Garand's backup Thursday against the Philadelphia Flyers. However, Joonas Korpisalo is nearing his return, creating a roster crunch. If Reimer clears waivers Friday, he will head to the Hartford Wolf Pack. The veteran signed a one-year deal last month to provide depth while Korpisalo and Igor Shesterkin recovered from injuries. He has appeared in four games with one start, allowing three goals on eight shots against Los Angeles before being pulled.
Durzi's IR placement is retroactive to Oct. 26. The 28-year-old has missed two games with an undisclosed injury and will not join the Rangers on their upcoming four-game Pacific Division road trip, which begins Saturday in Seattle. He has two goals and five points in 14 games this season.
The Rangers (8-7-1) trail Metropolitan-leading Carolina by nine points.
Mickey's Angle: Korpisalo's return stabilizes New York's crease, but losing Durzi for the road trip thins an already shaky blue line against tough Western Conference competition.
