Brady Tkachuk will suit up for the Florida Panthers against the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday, marking his first appearance in Canada's capital since requesting a trade following eight seasons and five years as captain.
Quinn Hughes makes his own homecoming on Sunday, Oct. 25, when his Minnesota Wild visit the Vancouver Canucks. It will be Hughes's first road game in Vancouver since the December trade that sent him out of the city amid reports of a disconnect with teammates during his time as captain.
Both players join a long list of stars who changed addresses under dramatic circumstances. Eric Lindros famously refused to play for the Quebec Nordiques after the 1991 Draft and sat out the entire 1991-92 season before an arbitrator awarded him to the Flyers in a 1992 trade that also involved the Rangers. Quebec received Steve Duchesne, Ron Hextall, Kerry Huffman, Mike Ricci, Peter Forsberg, two first-round picks and $15 million. Forsberg became a Hall of Famer and cornerstone of Colorado's 1995-96 and 2000-01 Stanley Cup championships.
Other franchise-altering swaps saw Toronto trade Wendel Clark to Quebec at the 1994 Draft for Mats Sundin, who became the Leafs' all-time leading scorer. Calgary dealt Joe Nieuwendyk in December 1995 for Jarome Iginla, who became the Flames' all-time leader in games, goals and points.
