Andrei Vasilevskiy has no plans to follow Nikita Kucherov out of Tampa Bay.
The star goaltender's agent, Dan Milstein, appeared Wednesday on DFO Insider and stated the 32-year-old wants to finish his career with the Lightning. Vasilevskiy's stated goal is to play 1,000 games for the franchise.
"Andrei is extremely happy," Milstein said.
Milstein also separated Vasilevskiy's situation from Kucherov's trade request, noting that client conflicts between a player and general manager do not spill over to other players he represents.
Vasilevskiy has spent his entire 13-season NHL career with Tampa Bay after being selected 19th overall in 2012. His resume includes two Stanley Cups, two Vezina Trophies, and the 2021 Conn Smythe Trophy.
This season, he has gone 7-3-1 in 11 starts with a .879 save percentage and 2.91 goals-against average. He is in year seven of an eight-year, $76 million contract.
The comparison to Kucherov's previously stated desire to remain in Tampa serves as a reminder that circumstances can shift rapidly in the league.
Mickey's Angle: For now, Tampa Bay keeps its backbone in net locked in, but keep an eye on extension talks with one year left on his deal after this season.
