The NHL's top two rookies will face off for the first time when the Leafs visit the Sharks on Monday. McKenna, the first overall pick and 18 years old, sat two points off the rookie scoring lead through Saturday. Stenberg, the second overall pick and also 18, trails McKenna by one point and brings stronger defensive chops to the matchup.
Former Senators captain Tkachuk will return to Canadian Tire Centre with the Panthers this week, his first visit since forcing a trade to play with brother Matthew. Tkachuk expects a mixed reception including boos. "Whatever (the reaction) is, it just shows how great of a fan base it is," he said.
Defenseman Cole will become the 143rd blueliner to play 1,000 games this week. The two-time Stanley Cup winner with the Penguins reaches the milestone during the Oct. 19-25 stretch.
The Jets host the Canadiens at Princess Auto Stadium in the Heritage Classic, the 46th regular-season outdoor contest in league history and first of three this season. Hughes, traded from the Canucks last December and formerly their captain, makes his first appearance at Rogers Arena as a road player Sunday. Benn, 37, sits six points shy of 1,000 for his career. The Art Ross Trophy winner and Olympic gold medallist ranks second in franchise goals and points behind Mike Modano.
