Denver forward Spencer Jones will not play in Thursday's season opener at Oklahoma City because of a lingering hamstring issue.
Jones had expressed optimism about his availability earlier in the week, and coach David Adelman thought as late as Wednesday night that the reserve would suit up. However, Jones was reevaluated after Thursday morning's shootaround, and the team decided the risk of additional harm to the injured area was too great.
Adelman called the decision precautionary rather than serious. The coach noted the importance of caution, saying a team cannot afford to lose its backup power forward on the first night.
Jones has dealt with the hamstring problem since training camp. The Nuggets matched a two-year offer sheet from the Thunder to retain him in July, expecting him to bolster a depleted reserve unit.
Brazile drew praise for his production, with Adelman predicting he will be among the best selections from this draft class within five years. Denver faces a late game on national television.
