The Baltimore Orioles have hired Jared Banner as general manager, according to a report by ESPN's Jeff Passan.
Banner joins the Orioles after three seasons as assistant general manager with the Chicago Cubs. He had previously served as the Cubs' vice president of special projects before his promotion to assistant general manager. His front-office career also includes two seasons as the New York Mets' executive director of player development and an 11-year tenure with the Boston Red Sox, during which he advanced from an assistant in player development to vice president of player personnel.
The Orioles had intended to hire a new general manager before the 2026 season, but that search did not conclude in time. Mike Elias, who was promoted to president of baseball operations more than a year ago, presumably handled the general manager role during the 2026 campaign.
Banner was hired by the Orioles on Monday. The Orioles are coming off a down year.
