Carolina Panthers long snapper JJ Jansen will become the NFL's all-time leader in games played at his position when he takes the field Sunday against the Eagles.
The 40-year-old will appear in his 282nd game, surpassing Trey Junkin for the most games by a long snapper in league history. All 281 of Jansen's previous games have come with Carolina.
Jansen signed with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame in 2008 but spent that regular season on injured reserve after playing only in the preseason. The Panthers acquired him in 2009 for a conditional 2011 draft pick, and he has held the job ever since.
He credited his father, a former high school long snapper, as his mentor. "I still remember we practiced in the same way every single time," Jansen said.
Jansen ranks second among active players in total games, trailing only Ravens defensive end Calais Campbell at 283. If both players appear in every game this season, Campbell would finish with 295 and Jansen with 294.
