A.J. Brown is likely to be activated Saturday ahead of the Patriots' home game against the Jets (2-3).
The wide receiver has missed the past four contests after sustaining a right high ankle sprain on Sept. 9, during the season opener in the early third quarter. Brown returned to practice Wednesday on a limited basis and remained limited all week. New England has an open spot on its 53-man roster.
Brown said Vrabel will decide his return, stressing the "long haul, not just for temporarily." The receiver will likely be eased back before assuming his usual heavy workload.
The Patriots (3-2) face the Jets on Sunday, then visit the Chicago Bears on Thursday. Drake Maye starts at quarterback. Other wideouts on the roster include Romeo Doubs, Pop Douglas, Efton Chism III, and Kyle Williams.
