The Nashville Predators claimed defenseman Daemon Hunt from the Minnesota Wild on Saturday, Oct. 24, while the Washington Capitals added blueliner Jack St. Ivany from the Winnipeg Jets.
Hunt, 24, is a 6-foot-1 left shot who appeared in 11 games for Minnesota this season, averaging 14:08 of ice time without recording a point. The 2020 third-round pick (No. 65 overall) has 61 career NHL contests and eight points, all assists. He briefly joined the Columbus Blue Jackets during the 2024-25 season as part of the David Jiricek trade before returning to the Wild in 2025-26. Nashville moved to bolster its blue line amid an injury to defenseman William Trudeau.
St. Ivany, 27, stands 6-foot-4 and shoots right. He played four games for Winnipeg this season without scoring and has 57 career NHL appearances with nine assists. Originally a 2018 fourth-round selection by the Philadelphia Flyers, he signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2022 and was traded to the Jets in June 2025 for forward David Gustafsson. Washington claimed him while missing defensemen Rasmus Sandin and Vincent Desharnais.
Hunt and St. Ivany were the only players on waivers Friday, and both were claimed. The Ottawa Senators waived winger/defenseman Kurtis MacDermid on Saturday, according to Bruce Garrioch.
