The Raiders, at 3-3, have kept rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza on the sidelines as Kirk Cousins holds the starting job.
Head coach Klint Kubiak highlighted Mendoza's work ethic during a Wednesday press conference. Kubiak observed Mendoza on the field by himself after everyone had gone, putting in extra time.
"He's doing more than asked, and that's just his character," Kubiak said.
Cousins, in year 15, said Mendoza is making plays, learning every day and refining his game. Cousins noted Mendoza played well against New England and is staying ready for when his number is called.
Mendoza's only appearance came in a Week 5 blowout loss to New England, where he completed 6-of-8 passes for 48 yards. Kubiak praised Mendoza for doing everything asked, and more, while waiting for an opportunity.
