Hartford Wolf Pack goaltender James Reimer became the oldest AHL netminder to record a shutout in almost 20 years on Friday night, stopping all shots in a 2-0 victory over the Providence Bruins.
At 38 years, 222 days old, Reimer surpassed the previous mark set by Wade Flaherty, who was 40 years, 62 days old when he accomplished the feat for the Rockford IceHogs on March 13, 2008. The victory marked Reimer's first AHL win since January 22, 2011, when he also posted a shutout for the Toronto Marlies.
Reimer signed with the Wolf Pack on a professional tryout last week and was making his first appearance of the season. The veteran now has five career AHL shutouts.
The Rangers, whose starter Igor Shesterkin is out for the remainder of the 2026-27 season and backup Joonas Korpisalo remains sidelined, currently rely on Dylan Garand and Spencer Martin in Manhattan. It remains uncertain whether the club will offer Reimer a full contract.
