Former West Brom and Stoke City striker Saido Berahino has retired from professional football at age 33 and will take charge of the Burundi national team.
Berahino made more than 133 Premier League appearances, primarily with West Bromwich Albion, where he debuted in 2012. His breakthrough came in the 2014-15 campaign, when he scored 20 goals across all competitions and helped the club finish 13th. That form earned him an England call-up in 2014, though he ultimately won 18 caps for Burundi instead.
Stoke City acquired him in 2017 for £12 million, but he managed only five goals in 56 appearances. He later played for Zulte Waregem, Sheffield Wednesday, AEL Limassol, Rajasthan United and Slovenian side Tabor Sežana.
Berahino said his journey took him "from the streets of Bujumbura to the Hawthorns, from the Premier League to places I never imagined I'd play," adding that this marks the close of one chapter and the start of another.
