San Jose Sharks alternate captain Alex Wennberg will miss the remainder of the club's road trip with an upper-body injury, head coach Ryan Warsofsky announced Thursday.
Wennberg, 32, is expected to sit out games in Ottawa on Thursday and Boston before being re-evaluated upon the team's return home. The center played a season-low 16:29 during Monday's 3-1 defeat to the Toronto Maple Leafs, then missed Tuesday's 4-3 overtime victory against the Montreal Canadiens. Ty Dellandrea entered the lineup in his place.
In nine contests this season, Wennberg has recorded three assists and a minus-3 rating. The Sharks hold a 5-4-1 record through 10 games, occupying the second wild-card playoff spot.
Captain Macklin Celebrini leads San Jose in scoring by a wide margin. His point total doubles that of Tyler Toffoli, Will Smith and Ivar Stenberg, who are tied as the next-closest Sharks.
