Brothers and sisters, it's Thursday evening and we've got one game tonight. Here's what you need to know before kickoff at 8:15 PM ET on Prime Video.
Carolina Panthers at Green Bay Packers
Lambeau Field — 53 degrees, partly cloudy. No weather excuse tonight.
Both clubs are on a short week, 4 days rest each, so nobody has a leg up there. Green Bay is 4-3, Carolina is 3-3.
The line opened Green Bay -7 and it's sitting at Green Bay -3.5 right now at DraftKings. That is a big swing. The total opened at 45.5 and has crept up to 46.5. The books don't do us any favors explaining why, and nothing in the injury reports jumps out as the obvious culprit for that spread move. Both sides are banged up on the offensive line — Carolina is missing Torricelli Simpkins III (Panthers G, Ankle, Out) and Damien Lewis (Panthers G, Knee, Out), while Green Bay is without Travis Glover (Packers OT, Knee, Out) and Sean Rhyan (Packers G, Ankle, Out). Carolina also loses Jaelan Phillips (Panthers LB, Hamstring, Out) on defense. Green Bay's Matthew Golden (Packers WR, Shoulder) is questionable. That's a lot of beef missing up front on both sides.
The spread move is big, but neither QB is flagged in the injury reports. Whatever drove that line from -7 to -3.5 isn't fully explained by what's in the reports yet — the news may still be working its way out.
What it means for you: When a total rises, the market is pricing in more scoring — maybe healthy offenses, banged-up defenses, or fine weather; the over costs more now than it did Monday, so if you like it, you already missed the best price.
Two offensive lines are a mess tonight. Worth watching how that plays out. What do you all think drove that spread from -7 all the way down to -3.5 — is that injury news we haven't seen yet, or something else?
