The Tigers have re-signed catcher Carlos Perez to a minor league contract, according to Matt Eddy of Baseball America.
Perez, who turned 36 yesterday, will return to the organization for the 2027 season and is expected to play for Triple-A Toledo. He joined the Tigers during the 2026 campaign after Houston released him in mid-June following an offseason signing meant to provide depth behind Yainer Diaz and Christian Vazquez.
The backstop made an immediate impression in Toledo, batting .351 with seven home runs in his first 12 games. An ankle injury in early August ended his season. Across 69 minor league games in 2026, Perez posted a 108 wRC+ with 15 home runs.
Perez last appeared in the majors in 2023 with the Athletics, playing 68 games. He owns a .592 OPS across 859 career MLB plate appearances. The Tigers' catching depth chart includes starter Dillon Dingler, backup Eduardo Valencia, and prospects Josue Briceno and Thayron Liranzo. The Tigers traded Jake Rogers this past season.
