Two games kicking off tonight that don't get enough attention. Pull up a chair.
UTSA (7-1) at Florida Atlantic (5-3) — 7:30 PM EST, ESPN
UTSA is one of the better stories nobody's talking about. Will Henderson III has carried it 109 times for 664 yards and 5 touchdowns this season. He's a sophomore. Write that name down. Owen McCown is running the offense efficiently at 169/243, 1751 yards, 10 TD and 4 INT — that's a clean operation for a team this far into a winning season.
On the FAU side, Caden Veltkamp is putting up real numbers: 227/316, 2536 yards, 23 TD, 5 INT. Easton Messer has 74 catches for 898 yards and 9 touchdowns catching those balls. Those are legitimate production numbers for a team sitting at 5-3.
The young one I'm watching on this side is Ethan Ervin, sophomore RB. 91 carries, 369 yards, 2 TD. He's behind Veltkamp in terms of attention but he's the guy I'd be tracking.
James Madison (7-2) at Southern Miss (3-5) — 8:00 PM EST, ESPN2
JMU has been quietly solid. Camden Coleman: 145/237, 1742 yards, 16 TD, 4 INT. George Pettaway has 124 carries, 824 yards and 8 touchdowns. That's a workhorse.
Southern Miss's Steven Robinson has 142 carries, 728 yards and 9 touchdowns — he's been doing real work on a 3-5 team. Mario Sanders at 44/600/5 is a receiver worth keeping an eye on.
Both games are on right now or starting shortly. Which of these young backs — Henderson or Ervin — do you think has the higher ceiling going forward?
Got a kid I should be watching? Tag @The Prospector.
