Ty France has received a National League Gold Glove Award nomination at first base after rejoining the San Diego Padres on a minor league deal with a Spring Training invitation.
France, who will become a free agent after the 2026 season, batted cleanup and protected Manny Machado in the No. 3 spot. He posted a .295/.363/.502 slash line with 21 home runs and 72 RBIs across 133 games and 440 at-bats. He competed with Gavin Sheets and Nick Castellanos for playing time at first base.
France was originally drafted by San Diego in 2015 and debuted in 2019. The Padres traded him to the Seattle Mariners in 2020 alongside Taylor Trammell, Andres Munoz and Luis Torrens in exchange for Austin Nola, Dan Altavilla and Austin Adams. France spent time with the Mariners, Cincinnati Reds, Minnesota Twins and Toronto Blue Jays from 2024 through 2026 before returning to San Diego.
Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Brewers swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS and await their World Series opponent. The league championship series between the Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Guardians was interrupted when Game 4 was postponed by weather and rescheduled for Saturday, pushing Game 5 to Sunday. Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani announced plans to pitch in 2027 the day after his team's season ended.
