The Ottawa Senators have opened their season with a 6-2-0 record through eight games, fueled largely by the play of goaltender Linus Ullmark.
Ullmark has posted a 6-1 record in seven appearances, with a 1.88 goals-against average and .945 save percentage. Both figures rank third among NHL goaltenders. The netminder and Jeremy Swayman, no longer teammates, currently sit together at the top of the league's goaltending statistics.
Senators reporter Brent Wallace noted that Ullmark has accumulated 20 wins since returning last season, the most in the NHL during that span. Wallace described Ullmark as being in "Vezina Trophy form," adding that he is the reason the Senators have started 6-2-0.
Not all Ottawa players have found early success. André Burakovsky has gone pointless in five games and acknowledged difficulty finding his game. Meanwhile, Dylan Cozens has yet to score through nine contests, registering only two assists.
Daily Faceoff LIVE co-host Carter Hutton, a former NHL netminder, has also weighed in on the early-season developments.
