Alright, it's Wednesday evening and we've got two games worth watching tonight if you can stay up. Let me tell you what I'm looking at.
Kennesaw State at Middle Tennessee, 7:00 PM EDT, CBSSN
Kennesaw State comes in at 1-6, so this is a rough spot for them. But I want people to watch Roman Gagliano for Middle Tennessee. Sophomore quarterback, 126 of 215 passing, 1404 yards, 12 touchdowns and only 2 interceptions on the season. That TD-to-INT ratio is the kind of thing that doesn't stay quiet forever. Middle Tennessee is 4-3 and he's a big reason they're above water.
On the Kennesaw side, Rickie Collins is doing a lot of work to keep that offense moving. 144 of 210 through the air for 1426 yards, but also 72 carries for 295 yards and 5 rushing touchdowns. He's their engine. Problem is, 4 passing touchdowns against 5 interceptions tells you the passing game is a little shaky. Brayden Munroe has 22 catches for 352 yards as his top target.
Jacksonville State at New Mexico State, 8:00 PM EDT, ESPN2
Jax State at 5-2 is the team I'd watch closer. Caden Creel is doing it both ways: 129 of 192 for 1637 yards, 12 touchdowns, plus 105 carries for 500 yards and 4 more scores on the ground. Deondre Johnson is his go-to with 22 catches for 431 yards and 3 touchdowns.
New Mexico State (3-4) leans on James Jones in the run game: 119 carries, 777 yards, 4 touchdowns. That's a real workhorse. Trey Hedden has 906 yards passing but 6 interceptions against 5 touchdowns, so the turnover margin could matter here.
Which of these two games are you planning to actually watch tonight?
